Galacticomm, Inc. and Equinox Systems Inc. join forces to market online solution for unix platform

Ft. Lauderdale, FL -- June 23, 1995 -- Galacticomm, Inc., developer of The Major BBS for UNIX, and Equinox Systems Inc., manufacturer of SuperSerial Technology (SST) intelligent multiport boards, have teamed up to co-market their online solutions. Together, the two companies offer the multi-user hardware and software necessary for organizations and entrepreneurs to create a UNIX-SCO-based online service that can support well over 100 simultaneous users on a single machine.

"We collaborated with Equinox last year on our DOS product, and the result was a world record for the maximum number of simultaneous high-speed users on a single Pentium machine," says Galacticomm's President and CEO Scott Brinker. "We're thrilled that now we can bring their high-performance products to our UNIX platform."

"Equinox has long been recognized as the price/performance leader in the multi-user UNIX market," says Robert Gintz, vice president of development for Sunrise, FL-based Equinox. "We are now bringing our winning combination of custom ASIC hardware design and finely tuned driver software to the remote access and online service markets. Galacticomm's leadership in communications software and their commitment to provide the highest possible performance across the entire application space is 100 percent in sync with our own philosophy."

The Major BBS for UNIX is online interactive software that offers local and Internet e-mail, public discussion forums, USENET newsgroup support, file transfer, real-time teleconference, polls and questionnaires, telnet, ftp, QWK-mail for reading and writing messages offline, customizable menus and prompts, configurable "Locks and Keys" security, accounting features, and more. It also offers RIPscrip and ANSI graphics for users. The software can harness the full performance of the UNIX operating system to su pport up to 256 simultaneous users on a single machine connecting via TCP/IP, modems, or serial links. The server can be connected via SLIP, 56K, ISDN, X.25, or T1.

In addition to support for SCO ODT 3.0, The Major BBS for UNIX also has editions available for BSD/OS 1.1 and 2.0, Linux 1.1, and Solaris 2.3 and 2.4.

The Equinox SST multiport boards and expandable I/O subsystems are built around the RISC-based Equinox SuperSerial Processor. Capable of up to 920 Kbps speeds, the Equinox processor eliminates the bottlenecks from the communications hardware. System operators can start with a single host controller card and then add port modules in increments of 8 or 16 ports.
